The Workforce Investment Board (WIB) of Santa Barbara County is a private, non-profit, federally funded agency that operates in partnership with Santa Barbara County. We provide Santa Barbara County business services programs to meet the needs of business and the workforce by integrating and linking services to build a strong workforce development system specializing in helping people gain the skills and confidence necessary to find jobs and career opportunities that lead to self sufficiency and long term employment. The WIB also includes promoting the growth of business with specialized programs aimed at supporting the needs of employers.

In 2001 the company that I worked for named Circon was bought out by another firm and we had to close operations in Santa Barbara at that time. We were a high-tech company that manufactured medical devices that experienced instability in corporate sales. As the Human Resources Director I felt an obligation to do what I could to make sure the experience was less severe and contacted the WRC with EDD for help.
The WRC staff conducted a "Rapid Response" presentation telling my employees what special services were available to workers being laid off. As a result many of my former employees found new postions with other firms and others such as myself decided to go back to school for further training to help us in our careers all paid for through their Workforce Investment Act program. With their help I was able to find another position and now have training in web design which makes me more valuable as an employee in the high-tech arena--thank you WRC!
